Rising stars of the aquarium hobby, rainbowfishes were represented by relatively few species until comparatively recently. They’ve proven to be ideal inhabitants for a wide range of community aquaria, with mature males blossoming from the modestly-coloured youngsters seen in most stores.
They might be larger than most tetras and barbs but all of these species are at their best as a shoal in a planted set up, where males will try to outdo each other in an effort to impress the females.
