Peter Bolger

Sales Assistant at Fishkeeper Ayr

How long have you been keeping fish?

I have been in fishkeeping for 12 years.

What was your first aquarium and what fish did you keep in it?

My first aquarium was a BiOrb 50ltr tank, I kept Siamese fighting fish alongside some Tetras.

What was it that made you decide to turn your fishkeeping hobby into a career?

I was passionate to pass on my knowledge of fishkeeping to other people and this was one of the best ways to do so.

Which species do you most enjoy keeping and why?

I enjoy keeping Marine fish as they are diverse and have a lot of character.

Which species haven’t you had a chance to keep yet but dream of having one day?

My favourite fish would have to be the Emperor Angelfish, however they grow to a large size and require a larger tank.

What pearl of wisdom would you give to first time fish keepers?

Don’t just jump into the hobby, look up anything before you buy and its important to test your water.

What’s your favourite aspect of your work at Maidenhead Aquatics?

My favourite aspect would be working in a team based environment with friendly people.

What’s your favourite/most useful piece of fishkeeping equipment and why?

My skimmer as it skims any of the fish waste created and helps keep my water at a good standard.

What do you think is the future of fishkeeping and what developments would you most like to see?

I believe we should place our time into tank bred marine species as this will stop various types of species being over fished and causing danger to the environment.

How many aquariums do you currently keep at home, and what are these?

Currently have one tank in my house, it is the RedSea Reefer 170.

What’s the most unique species you’ve ever cared for at Maidenhead Aquatics?

The most unique species I've cared for at Maidenhead Aquatics would be a Purple Tang.
