Although fish are considered to be cold-blooded animals, they do not like extreme temperature fluctuations. A heater is fine to increase temperatures to above ambient, however in the ever increasing heat of British summer keeping temperatures low enough to prevent heat stress for the fish, coral and even plants can be difficult. A chiller or fan is a good way to try and bring these temperatures down and prevent the loss of any aquarium life.
