All fans of the show ‘Super Vet’ will be aware that there are some ground-breaking operations helping ill-fated animals in the UK. So, when we saw just what a veterinary hospital in Missouri, USA were doing we couldn’t quite believe it!
Kiwi, a saltwater fish, was the victim of tank bullying after developing cataracts in one of his eyes. The bullying resulted in visible chunks being bitten out of Kiwi’s tail and his owner decided something had to change.
The fish’s owner Julie Morgan told Fox2Now "A lot of other people would say, 'Yes, put him down. Go ahead, it’s just a fish'. Well, my opinion is nothing is just a something. And if I could give him quality of life, why not?”.
Dr Megan Baebler of Kersting Veterinary Hospital performed the operation, removing the eye and replacing with a 9mm prosthetic one. This wasn’t however the first operation of its kind, as a rockfish in Canada received a similar prosthetic last year.
