What was your first aquarium and what fish did you keep in it?
Aqua start 320 that was heavily planted scape with a colony of cherry shrimps and spice rasboras
What species do you most enjoy keeping and why?
I keep a wide variety of species but my all time favourite is my Axolotl Nom Nom who has pride of place in my living room and enjoys sitting next to me in his 110cm Aquaoak fish tank.
What pearl of wisdom would you give to first-time Fishkeeper
Slow and steady wins the race, don’t rush into cycling an aquarium and ensure you buy a test kit to make it an easy first time experience.
What would be your dream aquarium?
7ft tank heavily planted with an array of south American cichlids such as Mikrogeophagus ramirezi, and discus.
What’s your favourite aspect of work at Maidenhead Aquatics?
Been able to take care of a wide variety of species and offering advise and passing on first hand experience to customers, enabling new FIshkeeper to take the step of moving into the aquatic hobby.
What questions do customers ask you most often?
Why do you have to change water.
What’s your secret fishkeeping “top tip”?
Go big, buy the biggest aquarium for the space you have, as you will always want to upgrade.
How many aquariums do you currently keep at home, and what are these?
I have 6 aquariums and home at the moment, 110cm Aquaoak, 5ft Elite aquarium, Large cube, Jewel vision 180, Quadro 70, scaper 60 cube
What’s the most unique species you’ve ever cared for at Maidenhead Aquatics?
Zebra Pleco L046, or Red bellies Piranhas
What is it that first got you hooked on fishkeeping?
My grandad buying me an aquarium with two weather loaches which he bought me as a surprise for when I got home from school.
What’s the most interesting thing you’ve learned since joining Maidenhead Aquatics?
The importance of the Nitrogen cycle and how bacteria colonises at different rate in soft water aquariums.
