What was your first aquarium, and what fish did you keep in it?
An old fluval aquarium, stocked with guppies.
What species do you most enjoy keeping and why?
I like keeping Cichlids, especially Electric Blue Acara, I like the behaviour of the animal in the aquarium and the personalities cichlids can possess.
What pearl of wisdom would you give to a first-time Fishkeeper?
Buy good quality equipment first time instead of being tempted to spend less on cheaper inferior products as it will save you a lot of time and money in the long term.
What would be your dream aquarium?
A 6ft Elite aquarium tank with a nice variety of African cichlids.
What’s your favourite aspect of work at Maidenhead Aquatics?
Working with a team of like-minded enthusiastic fishkeepers and getting to help customers with issues and have them become regulars who seek out advise.
What questions do customers ask you most often?
Sex ratio for livebearing fish.
What’s your secret fishkeeping “top tip”?
If you have a plan to upgrade an aquarium in the future, over-filter so you can keep an existing cycled filter for your new aquarium.
How many aquariums do you currently keep at home, and what are they?
I have a Roma 200, a Jewel Lido 120, a Fluval Flex 57, tetra 110.
What’s the most unique species you’ve ever cared for at Maidenhead Aquatics?
Otis our in store flowerhorn.
What is it that first got you hooked on fishkeeping?
We had aquariums when I was a child growing up, and it has always been a passion. I am older and have my own place, so I have more room and aquariums!
What’s the most interesting thing you’ve learned since joining Maidenhead Aquatics?
The range of different species that are in the hobby that I didn’t know of previously.
