How long have you been a Maidenhead Aquatics team member?

5.5 years

How long have you been keeping fish?

5 years

What was your first aquarium and what fish did you keep in it?

120L marine with Clownfish, Bubbletip anemone, Valentini pufferfish, Midas Blenny, starfish, Azure Damsels, hermits, and a baby Jade wrasse.

What species do you most enjoy keeping and why?

I love the sea and my favourite animals are sharks. I’ve got lots of shark tattoos. Sharks rule!

What pearl of wisdom would you give to first-time Fishkeepers?

Water changes fix/help the vast majority of tank problems. Liquids are only treating the symptoms if you don’t know what the cause is. Most tank issues are due to water quality problems, so ALWAYS test and do a small water change.

What would be your dream aquarium?

A shark tank! 50,000L with rays and eels and pufferfish and an octopus and maybe a turtle….and someone to help me clean it…

What’s your favourite aspect of work at Maidenhead Aquatics?

Teaching people about fish and fishkeeping, and fish delivery day!

What question do customers ask you most often?

Your tank keeps going green? How long are your lights on for?...

What’s your secret fishkeeping “top tip”?

Grow algae in your saltwater tank if you can. Specifically, Caulerpa if you’re a new marine keeper. It grows quickly and easily, and it takes phosphates and nitrates out of the water very well. I also love the look of seaweed in marine tanks, it looks so natural to me. And clownfish love it

How many aquariums do you currently keep at home, and what are these?

120L marine, 500L marine and a 60L marine. I really like marines 😊

What’s the most unique species you’ve ever cared for at Maidenhead Aquatics?

Seahorses. The most ridiculously graceful creatures ever! And a Potato pufferfish, only because someone decided to name it a Potato pufferfish.

What is it that first got you hooked on fishkeeping?

I’ve been mad about the sea since I could walk. There’s something about salties that makes them so beautiful and they’re the most satisfying fish to keep to me. I got my first fish tank and went marine straight away. They’re my favourite if it wasn’t clear…

What’s the most interesting thing you’ve learned since joining Maidenhead Aquatics?

Black Ghost Knifefish are mostly blind and find their food via electric sensors in their nose. And when they’re babies, they kind of look like little dogs hunting for food. SO cute!
